Today, I’m going to talk about the Holocaust.
The Holocaust was one of the darkest times that the humanity has been through. It consisted in the persecution and in the genocide of the people that were considered “inferior” by the Nazis. The Holocaust started in 1939 and ended in 1945. It was 6 years of pure chaos.
The Nazis pursued ethnic minorities, people with different sexual orientations and opponents of the regime, but mainly Jews.
Before the Holocaust there were 16,5 million Jews in Europe and after the Holocaust there were only 11 million.
The people that were considered to be “inferior” were taken to concentration camps, to work and, after, they were tortured and killed. The main concentration camp was Auschwitz, which is still the most popular, since it is the most visited by the tourists, but there are others like Dachau and Chelmno.
I want to finish with a quote by Anne Frank: “What is done can’t be undone, but we can prevent that it happens again”. I think this quote is really appropriate to this theme, because we can’t simply erase the Holocaust and other genocides from our past, but we can try not to repeat it again, or even get close to it.
